Spa Yeah!: Clarins Skin Spa
|

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Arbor Day…all great. But my favorite holiday
has got to be Spa Day—and thankfully it comes around more than once a year.
And what better place to ring in my next Spa Day than at the newly revamped
Clarins Skin Spa (1061 Madison Ave.; 212.734.6100)? It’s uptown girl pampering
meets fab botanical ingredients in a chic Madison Avenue locale.
Just as Thanksgiving isn't Thanksgiving without mom’s green bean casserole, Spa
Day just isn't Spa Day without an invigorating massage (stooping over a laptop
all day = tons of knots), an Ahhhhh-inducing body wrap and a body polishing to
keep me silky smooth, and an intense facial to help me get my glow on.
My favorite treatments? The Energizing Massage, which uses Clarins Tonic Body
Treatment Oil with rosemary and mint (good stuff); the Fruit & Salt Scrub with a
Detox Wrap, which exfoliates and hydrates my skin like nothing else (a must for
date night); and the Youth Booster Facial, which is so good you may get carded
afterwards.
If I’ve got a big event planned (aka the Spa Day after-party), I’ll also step up
my game with the Sun-Kissed Self Tanner and an Express Make-Up consult.
And of course I have to treat myself to some pressies from the shop—like my
beloved Beauty Flash Balm. It is Spa Day, after all.

Beauty Copycat: Anne Hathaway

I don’t know about you ladies, but I’d consider selling my soul to a devil wearing Prada if I could score Anne Hathway’s flawless porcelain skin, full lips, and gorgeous big eyes.
Luckily I don’t have to. Makeup artist extraordinaire Julie Harris works with Anne and she’s giving us an inside peek at her beauty playbook.
“Anne loves a strong eye and soft lips,” Harris says. “For a strong eye I usually use
Lancome or Yves Saint Laurent liquid liners. She has great lashes so I love to emphasize them with Lancome’s Courbe Virtuose Mascara with the new curl brush.”
The 411 on that immaculate complexion? “To keep her skin looking smooth, I cleanse and moisturize with LIERAC Eau De Soin Demaquillante Cleansing Water and LIERAC Hydra Chrono Comfort Cream for Dry Skin to hydrate,” Harris reveals. “It gives the skin an instant radiance.”
“I don’t use much foundation because her skin is so flawless,” she says, “but I love Giorgio Armani foundation and Laura Mercier Undercover concealer and translucent Secret Brightening Powder. The blush I like to use is Giorgio Armani Sheer Cream Blush #1 and #2.”
And what about that perfect pout? “I use Giorgio Armani Lipstick Mania #31, or Red Lizard by NARS for a red lip.”
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some beauty counters to hit up.

Disguise the Limit: MAC Halloween Face Masks
|

Okay, girls. It’s Halloween. SURELY we can come up with something better than “sexy cheerleader.” Or “sexy Girl Scout.” Or “sexy cafeteria lady.”
Where’s the originality? Where’s the creativity? Where are your pants?
Can’t think of a cool costume that doesn’t involve a tiny pleated skirt and lots of cleavage? Inspiration may come from a surprising source: MAC. The beauty brand has designed a series of Halloween face charts that will help you look gory or glam (or both). Each look details the MAC products you’ll need to duplicate it, or you can simply print it out and bring it to your nearest MAC counter from Oct. 29th-31st, and their makeup artists will recreate the look for you.
Devils, zombies, robots, butterflies, polka dots…there are a ton of boo-tiful designs to choose from. Now go get your freak on…and leave the played-out Britney costumes to the girls who think they’re trick or treating at the Playboy Mansion.

I Maran So Far Awaaay: Josie Maran Cosmetics

Forget Edison, Einstein, and even George Foreman. Some of the best things on the planet have been created by supermodels: “America’s Next Top Model,” Kate Moss’s TopShop dresses, Elle MacPherson lingerie… So that’s one big reason to like the new cosmetics line from Josie Maran.
The second?
It’s organic, baby.
Yep – Maran’s line is all about “luxury with a conscience.” Everything comes in chic (biodegradable) packaging, and contains organic and natural ingredients that will keep you on Mother Nature’s good side.
I’m loving the Finger Paints, a pretty palette of four shimmering colors for the face, Plumping Lip Gloss packed with marine collagen, and the Moroccan Argan Oil, which can be used to moisturize and heal everything from dry skin to split cuticles.
Isn’t it amazing what supermodels can do when they’re not hurling cell phones at their staff?

Beauty Copycat: Reese Witherspoon

Eat your heart out, Ryan Philippe. Our girl Reese Witherspoon is looking better than ever since her split and I’m here to tell you how to steal her look. Single moms, 1. Cheating hubbies, zilch.
Eyes
Rosie Jane Cosmetics Eye Hints in Buttercup Bronze will create that shimmering peach hue that makes baby blues pop. Blend a little under the eyes to up the sex appeal. Line the upper lash line with MAC’s Liquid Eye Liner, then plump and lengthen lashes with Lash Fusion.
Skin
Guerlain Meteorites Powder for the Face
brightens the skin for a luminous, sexy glow. Follow up with Paula Dorf Cheek Color Cream Blush in Tempo on the apples of the cheeks for a little definition.
Lips
Smashbox Photo Finish Lipstick in Sweet finishes the look with a creamy pink pout. Not that Reese has much to pout about these days.

Captain Marvel: Marvel-Mini Facial Light Therapy

Ever wish you had a magic wand that would bibbity-bobbity-boo you to a beautiful complexion?
Meet
Marvel-Mini Facial Light Therapy, a trio of Barbarella-esque beauty gadgets that zaps wrinkles, zits, and skin discolorations through the wonders of LED technology (whatever that means). What I do know is that you owe those science nerds you teased mercilessly in high school a big juicy kiss.
Each color-coded handheld device (green for hyperpigmentation, red for fine lines, and blue for acne) features a light panel straight out of a sci-fi movie; place it directly on your problem areas in 9-minute increments apiece, 4-5 times a week for the first 8 weeks. In about the time it takes you to watch (and understand) all 6 “Star Wars” films, your skin will become clearer, younger-looking, more radiant, and generally less Yoda-like.
It’s like having a medical spa in your makeup bag, minus the creepy lab coats.
One small step for mankind…one giant leap for beauty. Isn’t the future great?

Saving Face: Estee Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher
You know that scene in “The Truth About Cats and Dogs” when Janeane Garofalo visits the makeup counter only to be taunted with a magnified look at her gigantic pores? Around my apartment, that’s called “Tuesday.” My pores aren’t just big; they have their own Google Map.
But don’t write me and my pores off just yet. My vanity is armed with a new skincare weapon and things are looking up, my friends. Say hello to my little friend:
Estee Lauder Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher.
Packaged in a beautiful pale green bottle that deserves prominent placement on your bathroom counter, this miracle cream is one smooth operator. Put it on before your moisturizer and suddenly your face feels so soft and satiny it’s like your skin is made out of rose petals. (Confession: I dug the silky texture so much I kept applying more Idealist throughout the day. I might have a problem.)
But
Idealist doesn’t just make your skin oh-so-touchable; it makes it pretty to look at too. My pores are already shrinking away, and I haven’t had a breakout since (which is pretty remarkable, considering I can’t stop touching my face).
Call me an
Idealist, but I think I’ve found true skincare love.
