Tressed Out: Chic Spring Up-Dos from Star Stylist Marco Maranghello
 Between Fashion Week and the Oscars, there’s been a ton of fierce beauty styles to dazzle us lately. The only catch? We don’t, uh, exactly have a team of salon professionals lurking in our linen closet, waiting to work their hair magic. Heck, we don’t even a linen closet.
What we do have, though, is the 411 on hot spring hair styles from none other than Marco Maranghello. A senior stylist at the John Barrett Salon in NYC, Marco is also the official “American Idol" hair stylist for Paula Abdul, has three seasons of Chanel runway shows under his belt, and has styled Sienna Miller and Nicky Hilton. Luckily we were able to snag him to dish about how to achieve the season’s must-have up-dos.
The Sleek Classic Ponytail
1. Use a quarter-size amount of soft-textured white styling cream (Marco recommends John Barrett Elementage Be Hold Styling Balm) and start applying it from the ends, working your way up to the roots. Says Marco, “It is better to use a white styling cream rather than having the stiffness of hairspray. Not only does it create a sleek classic style but it also helps keep flyaways and frizz tamed."
2. Take a comb and smooth hair back to get rid of bumps.
3. Take your hair and tie it with a silk band. It is better to use a silk band rather than the regular bands with metal so that it won’t create dents or cause any breakage.
“This classic look was a staple at the Chanel Spring 2008 collection," Marco says. “You can also create a deep side part as well if you want to create a different look."
The Half Up, Half Down Look
1. Grab a section of your hair from your crown that is aligned with the pupil of your eyes. Run John Barrett Elementage Be Healed Styling Masque through hair to create a natural finger separation (this is to create a loose top).
2. Smooth sides of your temples with white styling cream.
3. Taking the section from the sides (right above your ear) and the top section, tie half your hair with a silk band.
4. This look can be accented with accessories such as hair barrettes and a 3-prong hair fork to accent your spring look.
