Step Up to Fornarina Patent Heels Under $40

Once a bargain hunter, always a bargain hunter. Italian brand Fornarina recently named Lindsay Lohan its new face—the face to launch the company to new heights in America, natch—but my interests lie solely in the cheaply chic despite the major celebrity partnership.

These black and white patent heels ($37, down from $120) are not only a steal, they're also classics that fit well into any woman's wardrobe.

Transitioning flawlessly from work to play, from desperately tiresome meeting to happy hour, from suits to jeans, these heels do it all without breaking the bank.

Streetwalk | That's a Wrap

On a stormy day in the city, I wasn't expecting to see much more than trendy rain boots and slick trench coats. Then I came across Tatianna, whose sweeping Karen Millen cardigan stood out over her clean-lined trousers and top.

The lightweight material eases the topper seamlessly from season to season, whenever your wardrobe demands something soft, cozy and chic on those unexpectedly brisk days.

It's not just the confident pattern that gives this piece a formidable place in your wardrobe, though; it's the versatility of wrapping it around as a dress, throwing one end over a shoulder or wearing it loose and relaxed.

This Calypso Yana Wrap ($225 on sale) is equally multifaceted, offering options aplenty in a single piece.

It's so reliable, you won't even bat an eye at that price tag.

Back to Basics: Banana Republic's Safari Stint

Remember when Banana Republic was all about safari, adventure and Indiana Jones color palettes?

Then the company rebranded (thank God) and enjoyed its reincarnation in the world of affordable, downtown-chic fashion. This season, though, BR returns to its roots with pieces like this silk floral print halter dress ($150).

I wouldn't have pegged this dreamy number as safari-inspired, but it's part of a collection that includes everything from basic tan shirt dresses and giraffe-print clutches to short-sleeved jackets and wide-legged trousers.

There's even a sexy, asymmetrical dress in a vibrant plum that drapes lovingly over curves and flaunts a great figure like nothing else. Who can resist such decadence?

The pieces are polished, sleek and perfectly in line with modern sensibilities, essentially proving that everything old really is new again.

Fixing Chewed Up, Costly Jeans

My dog ate the crotch out of a really expensive pair of jeans. Is there any way to repair them?

This happened to a friend of mine…twice. I don't blame you for being set on repairing them. You have a few options: consult a seamstress or attempt a DIY project by sewing a denim patch inside.

Less favored but infinitely more fun than fashioning the crotch of your jeans back into shape, buying a new pair, like these Hudson Stella skinnies ($187), may be the easiest thing you can do.

Whatever you ultimately decide, remember to keep them out of your pup's reach!

The Perfect Shoe for Imperfect Toes

My toes have some, let's say, aesthetic issues. I refuse to wear sandals. What's a cute, feminine substitute that's appropriate for spring?

Not up for a pedicure? Kudos for recognizing that less-than-gorgeous tootsies should be kept covered.

I love these Colette slingback flats ($89) by Sam Edelman. Light perforated detailing keeps it cool, the ballet style ensures it's trendy and the elastic slingback is just plain comfy.

This bright fuchsia is so perfect for spring, but you'll also find classic neutrals and metallics. And that animal-print lining is irresistible.

Kate Moss Ruffles Some Feathers

Kate Moss sure does love her wildlife. Last time we saw her snuggled up in a massive shearling coat. Now, she’s looking like a total bad arse in a bewitching feather-trimmed vest while, somewhere, a flock of ravens is phoning in an order for Rogaine.

And while the word ‘goth’ usually gives me frightening flashbacks of the droopy wide-legged jeans worn by the Korn kids back in high school, this witchy woman look is one style I could get behind (sorry, feathered friends). It’s tough, edgy, and kind of scary, but the coolness factor can’t be denied.

What do you think? Should I be eating crow after admitting a weakness for feathered vests? Is Kate’s look clever, or creepy?

Lindsay Lohan Dresses like a Not-So-Superhero

Look up at the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane!

Oh, wait. It’s just Lindsay Lohan in a truly appalling dress.

After rehab, trouble with the law, and “I Know Who Killed Me,” one would assume La Lohan had already hit rock bottom, but this horrendous blue and white Rainbow Brite-esque dress is a new low in my style book.

The white pumps…the shiny low-cut bustier top…the ugly skirt that appears to have made from an abandoned parachute…this ‘superhero chic’ look makes Robin’s red vest look like the height of sophistication.

But it is fun to speculate on what Lindsay’s superpower might be. X-ray vision? Supersonic speed? The ability to drink anyone under the table? Freckles with night vision?

Natalie Portman's Fashion Fumble

Some lucky girls have it all: beauty, brains, and an impeccable fashion sense.

Well, Natalie Portman, two out of three ain’t bad.

Okay, so maybe Natalie’s always been recognized more for her Audrey Hepburn 2.0 beauty and her ability to talk about politics without asking which party the elephants belong to than her flawless style, but does that really excuse dressing up like a Harvard co-ed home during winter break? (And yes, I know she was a Harvard co-ed. I was a University of Texas co-ed, but you don’t see me wearing burnt-orange at big events. Or ever.)

This seasonally confused, layered get-up of a winter coat, a springy floral skirt, tights, purple boots, and a white handbag feels downright lazy. Or am I being too harsh? Is ‘real’ style (or lack thereof) refreshing, or just a sign that a star really just can’t be bothered?

Rays the Roof: Sunscreens from SunBotanicals, Beyond Coastal, Peter Thomas Roth, Korres & Kate Somerville

There’s nothing like a beet-red sunburn – followed by a gruesome period of peeling skin – to put a dent in your social calendar. I should know. I managed to get through three weeks in Africa with nary an extra freckle, then skipped the sunscreen one day while on safari and spent the following week looking like I’d been playing with Aqua Net and a lighter. I’ve learned my lesson, and have been stocking up on the sunblock ever since. A few favorites:

SunBotanicals: This SPF 30 cream offers perfumed protection thanks to its invigorating rain, tropical, and lavender scents.

Beyond Coastal SPF 30 Active Daily Sunscreen: This water-resistant, paraben-free sunscreen is a great year-round essential for sporty types who spend a lot of time in the sun.

Peter Thomas Roth Continuous Sunscreen Mist SPF 30: Sick of having to ask some creepy stranger to get your back? This spray works from all angles, ensuring full coverage.

Korres Watermelon Sunscreen Face Cream: You can trust the Greeks to know a thing or two about the sun. This facial sunscreen contains watermelon extract to hydrate and soothe the skin.

Kate Somerville Protect SPF 30: Hollywood’s favorite skin guru has whipped up this lightweight sunscreen to shield skin from complexion-ruining burns and sun spots.
