Mother's Day Gift
Guide
By Danielle Schlass Saliman
May 5, 2008
Every year we
try hard to come up with something new for mom—that special woman who
likes to remind us how many hours of labor she endured to bring us into
this world. Somehow a vase full of flowers just doesn’t say 'thanks
mom,' quite like she really deserves. Or maybe you want to throw hints
at your husband (the reason you had to endure hours of labor bringing
his child into this world) and you want to point him away from the
flower shop. Either way, bookmark this page for some good ideas!
New Mom:
If sleep was for sale, we know that's probably
what any new mom would ask for as a gift, but since it's not available
on shelves (and really, who is she kidding, she won't get a good 40
winks worth till the kid’s at least 18), the next best thing? Stylish
mommy accessories! Diaper bags have certainly come a long way since the duckie/clown phase, but this takes the cake. Literally, the Cake line
from Petunia Pickle Bottom (the diaper bag ELITE) are not only as
gorgeous as a normal tote, they are also practical when not many great
looking bags are. The must-have
Cosmopolitan Carryall has multiple pockets (outside and in)
including one for a cell phone 4 bottle pockets, a zippered changing pad
pocket, and an interior antique brass key clip. It’s not just a gift,
it’s a necessity.
Floral Mom: You have the kind of mom that actually appreciates a
bouquet of flowers, but you want to give her something that will last a
bit longer. A basket full of floral beauty products will endure for many
more weeks. The Enchanted
Orchid Collection from Bath & Body Works made up of a lux floral
fragrance inspired by the velvety, dynamic texture of fresh calypso
orchid petals is being offered as a prepackaged gift for mom that comes
with a body lotion, shower gel, body sponge, and body splash all in a
beautiful spring-like basket—which she can make use of after to boot.
Stressed Mom: Stress can put a damper on everything from your sanity
to your skin, and whether it’s your workaholic mom who needs an excuse
to slow down or your friend who’s so stressed by kids or a relationship
that beauty's taken a backseat, you can give the gift of pampering with
Jaqua Beauty's Pink Palace, a collection of their 3 favorite Body
Butters: Pink Champagne, Pink Buttercream Frosting, and Pink Potion all
formulated with skin sumptuous ingredients from cocoa and shea butters,
to jojoba oil. Yum.
Aromatic Mom: She collects perfumes, she's always got a new scent on
her wrist and she can never get enough. You know she will welcome
something she can tote along with her.
Dolce & Gabbana The One , a warm, modern, oriental floral with fruity
notes of lychee and peach not only smells heavenly, but in this sleek
and compact purse sized spray, she can take her new luscious scent with
her wherever she goes.
Short on Time mom: Ok, we know, most moms are short on time, so
really this will work well for anyone. This brilliant invention: one
side is a plumping lip gloss, the other side is perfume. Clinique's
Perfectly Happy set made especially for Mother’s Day pairs their
infamous scent, Happy, with their best selling Full Potential Lips Plump
and Shine. And you get two shades in a beautiful orange floral box.
Genius.
Empty Nest Mom:
Mom spent all those years taking care of everyone else. Now the nest is
empty, and she may be feeling a bit lonesome, if not bored. A little TLC
in the beauty department may be just what mom needs to jump into a new
stage in life. The
Miraculous Beginnings kit by La Mer will make her feel like a new
woman. It contains both Crème de la Mer (1
oz.) and The Moisturizing Lotion, (1 oz.), or the Oil Absorbing Lotion
(1 oz.), depending on skin type, The Lifting Face Serum (.3 oz.), The
Lifting Intensifier (.1 oz.), The Cleansing Lotion (4.2 oz.), The Tonic
(4.2 oz.), and The Eye Concentrate (.1 oz.) all in a cute travel tote.
Kind of like a My First Anti-Aging kit for women ready to dabble in
serious skin combat.
Traveling Mom:
She's on the go and she rarely
sits down in one place. Easy to carry your whole office in a BlackBerry
but it doesn’t have room for the little things your average woman keeps
handy in her office drawer. She will appreciate
Ms. &
Mrs. Shemergency Survival Kit which includes
(among many other female daily necessities)
earring backs, hand
lotion, a nail clipper, nail polish remover, mending kit, double-sided
tape, shoe shine wipes, stain remover, static remover, deodorant wipes,
and a tampon.
Sexy Mom:
Yes, you can recognize the need for some moms to feel good about
themselves, life is not all Crocs and spit up, you know. Help her man
give her the gift of sexy by pointing towards the
Hanky Panky gift set by Bare Necessities: three lacy thongs in a vintage-looking and
discreet hat box.
On her Feet Mom: Why waste a ton on a gift certificate to a spa for
a pedicure when you can hand her a continual weapon against dry, rough
tootsies. She can use this more than once and get in her sandals in
seconds without worrying about booking an appointment. The
Artemis Woman Heel Smoother is a pedicure device that removes dead
skin in seconds with its DuraCrystal tip exposing new, soft, smooth
skin. |
