The Grand Tour of Fashion

By Alisa Welch

With an abysmal exchange rate and jet fuel as precious as gold, vacations to Europe will have to wait for better times. Of course, while Americans are staying put, tourists from all over the world—especially the European Union—are visiting the US in droves, bringing their Euros and international fashion trends with them.  In the spirit of international relations, here are some of the best imported looks for fall.

Parisian Chic:  French women have a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to effortless style. They are also masters of combining luxury goods and couture with less expensive fashion à la mode.  But for a classic Parisian ensemble, start with pair of good old fashion pair of black Converse sneakers. These comfy American standards look fab when paired with skinny (try Rampage’s Button Fly Skinny Jeans) or wide-legged (we love Gap’s Side-tab Trousers) jeans.  Top off the whole look with a soft and romantic cashmere sweater (see Milly’s Lace Cardigan), oversized sunglasses (by Yves Saint Laurent, of course) and you have a look ready for the Rive Gauche or Main Street.

Colorful London Street Wear:  The British may be known for their subdued demeanor, but the same does not follow when discussing their colorful street fashion.  Taking cues from such icons as Agyness Deyn, London’s lasses aren’t afraid to mix-up patterns, colors, and shapes.  For a look straight from Carnaby Street, start with Thomas Pink’s luscious Red Elder silk top, add Top Shop’s Sequin Lightning skirt, inky black tights, and finish with a pair of gold Olivia Morris flats.

On
an Evening in Roma:  The ancient streets of modern Rome are filled with elegant and ultra-feminine fashion with looks combining vibrant color with body-conscious shapes.  Begin with Armani Exchange’s Silk Blouson Print dress, a pair of strappy Via Spiga Ziva platform sandals, a luxurious beige snakeskin and leather satchel by Ghibli, wear your hair long and loose and you have a style that is pure dolce vita.
