Blair’s lead in edgy, action-packed designs

This week TopButton.com continues its fashion coverage of the
LA Film
Festival, where Hellboy 2: The Golden Army will be
screened on June 28th. Directed by Guillermo del Toro of
Pan’s Labyrinth fame, this highly anticipated sequel has something
for everyone: some comic book-style action for the fellas, and a cool,
independent heroine in Selma Blair’s Liz Sherman for the ladies. Want to
save the world one shopping bag at a time? Read on to get details on
adopting Blair’s edgy, futuristic, and fierce action hero style.
While Blair’s character, Liz Sherman, lives in a tough girl uniform of
black jeans, black top, and—you guessed it—a black jacket, feel free to
modify the cuts and colors as you see fit. The key thing is to find
pieces that are hard-edged and modern, with avant garde cuts that add a
futuristic appeal.
Rich & Skinny’s Sleek jeans in dark silver are just that—sexy and
sleek with just a whiff of sci-fi. Bypass the standard black leather
jacket and slip into the
Cruz Wrap Leather Jacket from All Saints, which imbues the tough
chick staple with some modern-day glamour and versatility.
When it comes to tops, aim for bicep-baring, casual tanks and camis with
intriguing cut-outs or details. My picks: the
Urban Outfitters Double Cross Back Tank, the funky
bead-and-rhinestone-accented
Heirloom Tee from Elizabeth and James,
Thomas Wylde’s hardware-heavy Egyptian Tank, and
Lucia Blanco’s Three Key Hole Tank. If you prefer longer sleeves, go
with
Shelly Steffee’s Drape Neck Top.
On to accessories. Give a nod to Liz Sherman’s signature cross necklace
by wearing
Ettika’s opulent-with-an-edge Cross Leather Bracelet. Belts with
striking details—like this
Nikki Jaggs Megan Belt, or
Streets Ahead’s Enamel Diamond Stretch Belt—can also make a big
impact. And for some serious butt-kicking footwear, it’s got to be a
heavy boot. We like the
Lolita Ankle Boot from Michael Kors, and the
multi-buckled One of Two 1036 boot.
Oh, and that inky black asymmetrical bob Selma Blair’s sporting? It’s
cool for the big screen, but do you really want to risk being mistaken
for Christian Siriano? We think not.
